Lintong refers to a specific area to the south of Sumatra’s Lake Toba. The people here are from the Batak tribe, like many from around the lake. Only in Lintong you’ll find more cars in driveways and more satellite dishes on roofs. It’s because specialty coffee came here first.

Lintong was the first area to be developed for specialty coffee outside the Dutch plantations in Aceh. Sparkling lemon lime acidity and complex sugars are the hallmark of a good Lintong and this coffee matches that, adding complexity with notes of green apple and some slightly wild fennel .

This lot was collected by a Tokeh named Kotor from a group of 50 women, mostly widows. The word ‘Nauli’ means ‘pretty’ in the local language, and ‘Batak’ refers to the tribe. Batak Nauli is a new project and one that we are happy to be a part of from year one.

On a light-medium roast we found golden raisin and apple cider sweetness, floral and spice complexity, pleasant citrus acidity. Sweetness remained right through to room temperature in the cup. Some raspberry came out as it cooled. This is a beautiful coffee.
